I mentioned previously how at times beauty is strictly in the eye of the beholder. Why is our culture so obsessed with the visual? Everything has to be aesthetically pleasing. Like why does toilet paper have patterns on it when you’re just going to cover it in filth? I want that job- Anastasia: drawer of toilet paper designs. Seriously, what a freaking waste of time, effort, money… Gericault said “The arts have never been a primal necessity, but are rather the fruits of abundance, ripening when more elementary needs are satisfied, When man no longer wants for his basic needs…” I love art, but what the hell?!? I feel like creative design is what separates us from God’s other creations, but we have got to ask ourselves at what point it just becomes selfish indulgence. Indeed. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there with much less understanding and appreciation of art than myself who would argue that in fact most of it is wasteful. Notice I condescendingly included “understanding”- I can’t for the life of me imagine what dislike of art would be like. Man I sound like a snob. Day is done.
