More thoughts on beauty. Philippians 4:6-8 is one of my favorite passages from the bible. The apostle Paul is writing a letter advising the newly converted people of Phillipi. Check it out:
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Que?! Alright I like 6 & 7 because its uber comforting, but 8 is really what i find interesting. Basically it’s saying to focus your mind on the good stuff. Sounds pretty basic when put like that, but it’s pretty powerful to read the full version. It’s so freaking positive, it’s like nothing else would ever make sense to spend time on. Which is mostly true. Don’t worry, be bitter, dwell in the bad or wrong- negative negative negative. Paul is a genius.

Nice effort.
However, crediting Peter for his "genius" for observations made by thousands of others for thousands of years ahead of him seems ridiculous.
I picture a caveman thinking:"I'm going to forget inventing tools or fire for now and concentrate only on the beautiful things in life - like escaping this sabretooth tiger..."
obviously you can't ignore all things unpleasant, but so often people focus their entire being on them that they overlook the good things. besides, paul wasn't talking about looking at things that are aesthetically pleasing, he's talking about focusing attention on the worthwhile. ironic that yet another thousand of years or so after paul "parroted" this, people are still screwing life up and dwelling on the suck in life, and finding comfort in his words.
