Memorial Day

"These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead."

~Robert G. Ingersoll (1833-1899)

I'm not the most patriotic person. I have to question a lot of things our country does, both internally and internationally- but I do enjoy the freedoms it has allowed me and I must say that I dearly appreciate those in the armed forces who serve and protect, especially those who end up giving their lives to do so. May God bless our soldiers worldwide and deliver them home safely.

This is a hard topic to touch. I respect those men and women that love this country and our freedom so much that they would lay everything on the line.

However, I do not really have sympathy for soldiers when I hear about the struggles they go through. They have chosen their path just like anyone else.

I am somewhat mixed, but I support the men and women who lay down their lives. This does NOT in any way mean that I support any kind of war.

I sort of feel for soldiers, because at least they fight for what they believe, whether it be skewed or not.

At least some people know they have something to fight for. And choose to do so. There are so many people that if faced to fight for something they believe in could not. Not every war is justifiable. But important for future generations to learn from. History will always repeat itself till someone finally says hey look at this pattern maybe it isn't such a good idea. -sarah
