Francesca Woodman rocks in socks, i mean, naked.
So Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain all died at age 27. Coincidence? Probably not, we already established that most good artists are nuts, plus living hard and fast as the abovementioned did tends to lead to death fast, too. And I don’t know about hard and fast, but I’ve read that van Gogh liked to hit the sauce, as well. Plus, after he was already committed to an asylum, he ate paint chips- that couldn’t have helped. My favorite artist, Francesca Woodman, committed suicide at age 22. That means that she was already freaking bomb ass artist and jumped out of a window by the age I am now. And I ask: What are we doing with our lives?!? This makes me feel so feisty, like I should be doing something great- but I’m going to sit here and type a blog entry. And then I’m going to go work out. And then I’m going to study. And then I’m going to sleep. And then I’m probably going to do the same shit I do every other day. Hoo-rah. Maybe it's time to call it a day, huh?

Kurt Cobain was talented, but everyone forgets Layne Staley. Alice in Chains rocked so much more than Nirvana did, but Layne lived longer than Kurt (to the ripe age of 34). There's always time to do something awesome. The only thing stopping us from doing so is normality. Awesome is not normal, and I believe that's usually why awesome people die young. I think our bodies are only programmed to handle so much stress, and even really good things are considered stress according to psychology. Therefore:
-Too much awesome = too much stress.
-Too much stress = loss of sanity, addiction to drugs, or all of above
-Drugs/loss of sanity = eventual death
Director Robert Zemeckis said that after completing Forrest Gump, he went through a depression because he didn't believe he could ever make another movie that great. I think most artists go into depression from either too much attention, or they extenuate themselves so much into one piece that they just don't feel that have anything else to accomplish in life. I mean, in music terms, you can either go out when you're on top (Joplin, Cobain, Hendrix, Staley) or you can keep sucking through eternity as a sell out (Chili Peppers, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, blah, blah, blah... wish they'd disappear already).
